This year, Alliance Française is proud to be a partner of the movie "Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart" !
From the French director Stéphane Berla comes the extravagant love story of a gloomy young fellow cursed with a faulty cuckoo-clock heart. Not only that, this tormented teen falls in love for a girl who is visually impaired from crying tears of ice. The romance is doomed to fail as his adopted mother Madeline informs him that even a single kiss could stop his ticking heart. But Jack is prepared to do anything to find his first love, like Don Quixote, he sets out on a quest for love that will take him from the Scottish lochs to Paris, and from there to Andalusia. The things we do for love.
In Jack and The Cuckoo-Clock Heart, our friends in France have given us a very stylish 19th century world full of unique and unusual characters. The CGI is done in a marionette picture-book style that is quite beautiful and a real treat for the eye. If you like your animation dark and Gothic, and you lean towards Tim Burton, Henry Selick and the LAIKA Studio style then you'll love this original tale. Warning; Not for the weak of heart.
