A1 Discovery

A1 Part 1 - Discovery with Edito

Two classes of 2 hours a week

Are you a complete beginner? This level is for you!
(for once-a-week classes, Part A is a prerequisite for Part B).

In this class, students will learn the basics in French:

  • Spell and count;
  • Introduce themself (greet, name, age, nationality)
  • Give and ask for personal information (name, address, dob, email, phone #);
  • Express their likes and dislikes;
  • Name, ask, and give their place of residence;
  • Talk about their family.


Prerequisite: no prior knowledge of French whatsoever (for once-a-week classes, Part 1A is a prerequisite for Part 1B).

Textbooks: EDITO A1, Unit 0, unit 1 + unit 2.
NEW STUDENTS: For online classes: books to be picked up in our premises (no delivery). For in-person classes: the teacher will give the books on the first day of class.
Please note the curriculum displayed is based on a full level of twice-a-week classes. For once-a-week classes, students will need Part A and Part B to complete the level.

A1 Part 2 - Discovery with Cosmopolite

Two classes of 2 hours a week

In this class, students will learn how to:

  • Make somebody's acquaintance;
  • Exchange information about accommodations;
  • Express their likes and dislikes;
  • Talk about their families;
  • Characterize somebody;
  • Talk about their passions, their hobbies, their dreams;
  • Talk about their profession;
  • Explain a health problem.

Prerequisite: A1 part 1 or Placement test.
Textbooks: Cosmopolite 1, Lessons 4 to 6 of Unit 2 +  Unit 3.

A1 Part 2 - Discovery with Edito

Two classes of 2 hours a week

In this class, students will learn the basics in French:

  • Describe and identify.
  • Understand a menu in a restaurant, order;
  • Shop for groceries;
  • Give an appreciation;
  • Present and describe a city, a neighborhood;
  • Talk about public transportation;
  • Ask for and give directions;

Prerequisite: A1 Part 1 or Placement test.

A1 Part 3 - Discovery with Cosmopolite

Two classes of 2 hours a week

In this class, students will learn how to:

  • Inform themselves about weekends activities, outings;
  • Tell time and indicate a schedule;
  • Talk about their daily activities;
  • Propose, accept and refuse an invitation;
  • Tell past events;
  • Talk about recent experiences or projects;
  • Describe somebody.

Prerequisite: A1 part 2 or Placement test.
Textbooks: Cosmopolite 1, Unit 4 + Lesson 1, 2, 4 of Unit 5.
