Take your seat at Le Théâtre of Vancouver!

A theatre accessible to everyone

Today, some people are not able to fully enjoy the cultural experiences we offer. At Alliance Française Vancouver, we believe that everyone, regardless of their abilities, should be able to fully experience a film, a performance, or a shared moment.

Everyone should be able to fully experience culture
In Canada, more than 1.5 million people are Deaf or hard of hearing, and access to culture should never be out of reach. Each year, students and young participants walk through the doors of our theatre to enjoy screenings, performances, and educational workshops. However, for some, auditory or visual barriers stand in the way of a complete experience

That is why we aim to equip our theatre with inclusive technologies:
  • A captioning system for Deaf and hard‑of‑hearing audiences
  • Individual audio devices to enhance the experience for visually impaired audiences or those with specific needs
These tools will allow everyone to fully enjoy our events.

Your support will help us to:
  • Make culture accessible to all
  • Welcome a more diverse audience
  • Offer an inclusive experience to families, youth, and the entire community

Support this project Support this project

By supporting this project, you can also leave a lasting legacy in our theatre.

With a donation of $750, your name (or the name of a loved one) will be engraved on a theatre seat. This fully tax‑deductible gesture will be permanently recognized in the new theatre through a commemorative plaque.

You now have the opportunity to express your support and to immortalize your love for theatre and for the community.

For more than a century, Alliance Française Vancouver has been a gathering place for those who appreciate the French language and culture. Become part of this legacy by investing in this campaign. Pay tribute to family members, honor someone special in your life, mark an important date such as a birthday or celebration, or display the name of your business or another organization. You decide how to honor those who matter most to you.

The new Alliance Française Vancouver theatre is a professional-standard, black box theatre featuring 165 seats suitable for concerts, dance, theatre, cinema and lectures. Fully accessible, with seats reserved for disabled persons on the first row, full access for wheelchairs on a dedicated platform, and a fully accessible control room – the first in Vancouver.

Testimonials from our cultural partners

"...the support of the AFV was essential to develop my artistic career in B.C. By lending me a space to develop and present my theatre play, the AFV helped me create the first contact with vancouverites and let people discover my work...It is my wish that the AFV can support other artists as it has done with me so that the francophone artists of Vancouver can be more prominent in the province..."
Anaïs Pellin Artist, Kleine Compagnie
"...The AFV is helping to enhance the image of the Alliances françaises, and - with the new "flagship" building planned for 2023 - will be able to raise the stakes even higher in terms of the discoverability and influence of France, always by promoting structuring local partnerships...."
Alexandre Col Former Cultural and Educational Cooperation Attaché (2020-2022)
