Description:
Week 1 – Exploring the Ocean
Students become young explorers as they discover the oceans of the world, learn basic ocean vocabulary in French, and create their own explorer compass.
Week 2 – Jacques Cartier
We learn about early French exploration in Canada and build mini explorer ships while practicing simple French sentences. Build a mini explorer ship (paper + recycled materials)
Week 3 – Samuel de Champlain & Forests
Students explore Canadian forests, map nature like explorers, and create their own illustrated forest maps. Students will explore nature like real explorers by examining different rocks, leaves, flowers and herbs, guessing where they come from and learning their names in French.
Week 4 – Jacques Cousteau & Marine Life
Dive underwater to discover sea animals in French and habitats while building a 3D ocean diorama.
Week 5 – Weather at Sea
Learn French weather vocabulary and understand how weather affects explorers and ocean life.
Week 6 – Whales of British Columbia
Discover local whale species and ocean stewardship while creating West Coast inspired whale art.
Week 7 – Protecting Our Oceans
Students learn about pollution and conservation, design environmental posters, and explore ways to protect marine life.
Week 8 – Explorer Celebration
Students present their projects in simple French, share their creations, and celebrate becoming “Petits Explorateurs Francophones."
