Synopsis

Dans l’optique de comprendre d’où elle vient, Fabiola a posé une question qui est devenue la phrase centrale du film : qu’est-ce qu’aurait été ma vie si j’étais restée en Haïti? En prenant comme point de départ la situation économique précaire de sa mère biologique, celle-ci n’avait d’autre choix que de confier sa fille. Fabiola aurait pu se retrouver restavek, ou dans une famille d’accueil aimante, ou dans la rue abandonnée à son sort, ou se faire adopter à l’étranger. Le film traite d’un thème universel qui rejoint un public de tous âges qui fait référence à la dignité humaine, notre besoin de consolation et d’humanisme, alors que les migrations et l’empathie sont les grands défis de notre siècle.

In order to understand where she came from, Fabiola asked a question that became the central theme of the film: what would my life have been like if I had stayed in Haiti? Taking as a starting point the precarious economic situation of her biological mother, the latter had no choice but to give up her daughter. Fabiola could have ended up as a restavek, or in a loving foster family, or on the streets abandoned to her fate, or adopted abroad. The film deals with a universal theme that resonates with audiences of all ages, referring to human dignity, our need for consolation and humanism, at a time when migration and empathy are the great challenges of our century.
