International examinations like the DELF & DALF take an important place in student's curricula: they are worldwide recognized standards.
The DELF (Diploma of French Language Studies) examination is the first lifelong diploma of French as a second language with
international recognition. Today 900 exam centers in 154 countries offer the DELF for 320,000 candidates each year. Since
their inception in 1985 there have been 2,500,000 candidates.
The DELF has been recently introduced in BC schools, and is organized at Alliance Française de Vancouver since 1990. It is a widely recognized diploma based on the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR). The DELF has 4 independant units: A1, A2, B1, B2. The DALF has 2 independant units: C1 and C2.

The CEFR or Framework divides learners into three broad divisions, which can be divided into six levels:
A1 Discovery
Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can
introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and
things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
A2 Intermediate
Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family
information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of
information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters
in areas of immediate need.
B1 Independent
Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal
with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics,
which are familiar, or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and
explanations for opinions and plans.
B2 Advanced
Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of
specialization. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible
without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue
giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
C1 Autonomous / C1+ Expert
Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously
without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and
cohesive devices.
C2 Master
Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarize information from different spoken and written sources,
reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely,
differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.
When taking classes of French at Alliance Française de Vancouver, you get access to contents and objectives which lead to the DELF examination. To enroll in one of our class and prepare for the examination, you can take our level assessment.
Did you know? The examinations are independent; candidates can register for a level without any prerequisite for the examination of their choice. The diploma is valid for life!

Individual exams (oral expression) can be schedule on the same day in the afternoon or on another day depending on number of
candidates.

Prices subject to change. Our members have a 10%
discount on the DELF/DALF exam. Collective exam starts at 9am. Individual oral tests take place thereafter or within two weeks of the
collective test. Please note that candidates cannot choose the time of their individual test. Exam to be held at in our premises. Some
levels have limited seats
