Our partner Le Centre Culturel Francophone presents its artists-in-residence program during Le Festival d'Été Francophone de Vancouver. In 2024, Quebec’s singer and oud player Lamia Yared is paired with Vancouver’s artists François Houle, Sheina Hannigan, Hamin Honari and Gordon Grdina for an overview of Turkish, Sephardic, Arab, and Greek music.

Lebanese oud player and singer Lamia Yared specializes in classical Arabic and Ottoman music, preserving and promoting Eastern Mediterranean heritage through acclaimed albums and international collaborations.


François Houle Clarinettist

Visionary clarinetist François Houle, a pioneer in contemporary music, develops a unique and virtuosic improvised language inspired by influential international collaborations, reflected in his extensive discography and academic achievements.
Sheila Hannigan Cellist

Sheila Hannigan, cellist and educator, holds a Master’s from Université de Montréal, studying with Yuli Turovsky. She's active in classical, world, and improvisatory music, touring globally.



Gordon Grdina Oudist & guitarist

Gordon Grdina, JUNO Award-winning oudist and guitarist, spans genres from avant-garde jazz to Arabic music. Collaborations with leading artists showcase his unique instrumental approach and improvisational mastery.

Hamin Honari Percussionist

Hamin Honari, Iranian-Canadian tombek and daf percussionist, teaches and performs globally, adapting his style across genres with notable ensembles and musicians.
