Sophie Oliveau-Moore

Originally from the southwest of France, I have been living on Vancouver Island since 1984. After spending about fifteen years in the north of the island, I moved with my family to Victoria. With a background in visual communication, I worked in graphic design for several years before turning to translation. I am now a certified translator with the STIBC.

It was also in Victoria that I reconnected with the francophone community, and I quickly became involved in volunteering in French. Over the years, I have served on the boards of Canadian Parents for French – Victoria Chapter, the Société francophone de Victoria, the Société historique francophone de la Colombie-Britannique, Les Amis de l’Académie Sainte-Anne, and the Alliance Française de Victoria.

During my two years as vice-president of AF Victoria, I became aware of the need to support the growth of one of Canada’s oldest Alliance Française, whose smooth operation relied almost entirely on increasingly demanding volunteer efforts. I am therefore pleased to have contributed to its merger with the Alliance Française de Vancouver and to the creation of the Alliance Française – Canada Pacific, where I look forward to representing the beautiful city of Victoria on the board.
