A BUILDING PROJECT

Let's open a new chapter together

A building project: Seven years in the making

Recognising the need to modernise its 52-year old building to better serve its growing community of users, Alliance Française Vancouver formed the Nouvelle Alliance Committee (NAC) to help guide future feasibility options in 2015.

“This project represents the sheer determination of the board and the wonderful community spirit of AFV’s members and partners who encouraged us along the way.  We did not give up despite many challenges encountered along the way and they were many of them. From 2015 to 2019, NAC studied a number of options with the input of several professionals. From receiving advice to sell the property and move elsewhere to giving up ownership for residential redevelopment, the board always kept the best interests of AFV and its the members at heart. And our members voted to rebuild on the same site while retaining full ownership.

We have made great progress since 2019, the delays in the permit approvals by the City continue to be a challenge. However, we finally started the project with demolition and excavation. We remain confident we will finish the building by early 2023.” – Damien Hubert, executive director

Develop our academic excellence

We are planning to expand our pedagogical activities in the next few years and want to offer the best facility possible to our students. All our classrooms will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies involving AR and VR. We are dedicated to shape the future of French language teaching.

Offer a vivid cultural centre to our community

We are committed to develop cultural activities accessible to all. As the Cambie neighbourhood is at the threshold of a new urban dynamic, the centre will host a restaurant, an art gallery, a brand new mediatheque and performance space in the Cambie area. We want to participate to the diversity and the quality of Vancouver's cultural offer.
