Africa Fete

Africa Fete

February 13-15 2015
Performance Works

Join Caravan World Rhythms and New Works for a three-day celebration of African, Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Haitian and  Afro-Peruvian Music and Dance, with the support of TD Then & Now, and the Granville Island Cultural Society.

Friday night we will dance the night away with Montreal’s acclaimed Afro-Haitian Wesli Band (www.wesliband.com).
Haitian born Wesley Louissaint, alias Wesli, delivers a rich, festive and uniquely engaging sound, conquering the  heart of his audience through complex musical arrangements and universal messages of hope, truth and peace.
“Wesley Louissaint, is a born entertainer who’s groove machine skillfully cooks up afrobeats, reggae, rock and  Haitian Rara into a unique blend of spicy pot-o-feu.” Local Zimbabwean band Zimbamoto and Afro-Peruvian Band  Matices Del Sur will complete this night of contemporary African inspired music.

Saturday night experience some of the deep spiritual and cultural traditions of West African and Afro-Brazilian  culture. Highlighting the evening is Sohoyini (www.sohoyini.net), an eight-piece West African all-star ensemble  of musicians, percussionists and dancers from Seattle. The band was created in efforts to unite cultures and  celebrate our diversity through the beautiful dance and music of Africa, celebrating not only the roots, but also the  branches of our new global culture. Moving into the Americas, Ache Brazil will bring us a spectacle of music, dance  and acrobatics from the Afro-Brazilian cultural traditions, and we will end the evening with KÁRÀ-KÁTÀ AFROBEAT  GROUP blending original Afrobeat with Reggae, Soca, Calypso, & Modern funk!

Arrive early and start both nights off with delicious Ghanaian African food from renowned restaurant TASTE OF  AFRICA, and perhaps something to drink from our licensed bar.
