Vlaff

Vancouver latin american film festival

From August 28th to September 8th

The 12th annual Vancouver Latin American Film Festival runs from August 28th until September 7th, 2014 and will celebrate the distinct Latin American style and artistic approach to cinema, while avoiding the clichés that many often associate with "latin" culture. VLAFF's film selection has been recognized internationally for a curatorial vision that honours new Latin American filmmakers alongside more established ones.

This year's festival will feature 73 full-length and short films from over 15 countries. Highlights of VLAFF's 12th festival include: Spotlight on Chilean Cinema, including a retrospective on Chilean actor Manuela Martelli;Canada Looks South, a program of films by Latin-Canadian filmmakers; a series of four Afro-Cuban films; and several talkbacks with guest directors following selected screenings. The VLAFF program will once again include the New Directors Competition (seven films) and the Al Jazeera Documentary Competition (seven films), which is presented in partnership with the Al Jazeera Documentary Channel. Sixteen short films are also in competition for Best Short Film.

Alliance Française is proud to support this wonderful film festival again this year!

This September, end your summer with eleven days of the best of Latin American cinema and culture!
