World cup: France vs Germany

Friday, July 4 - 9am
At Alliance Française auditorium

France has been one of the most consistent teams in this World Cup. It scored several goals in group stages, including 8 in its first two matches. Germany, on the other hand, came to the world cup as one of the top contenders to lift the cup. So far, it has shown enough fire-power to justify the claim. There are very few teams who match Germany's performance at the World Cup and this year may be no exception. (from International Business Times)

The last time France made the semifinals in a World Cup was in 2006, when they went all the way to the final where they lost to Italy. Any time France and Germany meet, memories are revived of their famous clash in the World Cup semifinals in 1982 when West Germany came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 and win the shootout. West Germany also beat France in the World Cup in 1986, 2-0 in the semifinals, but France has won four of their six matches since German reunification in 1990. (from abcnews.go.com)

The European rivals meet again in the quarterfinals in Brazil.
