Louis Xiv's influence: from france to canadaFriday, October 23 - 6.30pm FREE event ***BOOK YOUR SEAT HERE!***
September 1, 2015 marked the 300th anniversary of the death of King Louis XIV of France, also known as the Sun King, "le Roi Soleil", which marked the end of a reign of 72 years, the longest in the history of France. During his monarchy, French language, arts and culture flourished and spread their influence throughout Europe. Louis XIV made France a dominant political and military power in Europe. France also expanded its colonial presence in Canada and other parts of North America (for example, Louisiana) under Louis XIV. This presentation made by Michael Huenefeld will attempt to shed some light for the general public on this king's character, motivations, and key policies. He will also touch on French colonial administration in Canada under Louis XIV. Lecture in English with bilingual support. |
