Marie-Claire Howard, President

An active member of Alliance Française Vancouver since 1996, Marie-Claire is a former journalist and Public Relations Consultant now devoting her time to philanthropy and sports.  She is serving her fourth mandate and has been involved with the New Alliance project from the beginning.  She has sat on the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club, the Advisory Board of the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association, the Lord Tennyson PAC and the French Chamber of Commerce in Toronto and Vancouver. She is also on the Financial Committee and the Opportunities Committee of Social Venture Partners. 

Robert Khouri, Vice-President

Robert joined the AFV board in 2016. He sits on the construction and the financial planning committees. Robert has a mathematic and engineering academic background (P Eng ETP - Paris & MSc Columbia University - New York). His first start up EURO SERVISEN was started in Paris in 1987 and moved to London in1992 before being sold to the French Stock Exchange in 1998 as Euronext, Saas providing trading room software for executions and stock order routing on European stock markets.His second start up, RENAISSANCE TRADING Corp, was created in Vancouver in 2005 but 80% of its business in the USA. This SaaS provides automatic evaluation of condos (AVM) and creates a database of maps of urban areas directly integrated in the MLS platform of Real Estate Boards.

Suzanne (Suzy) Buckley - Treasurer

Suzy Buckley joined the AFV Board in 2018. She is currently Treasurer and sits on the Financial Planning Committee for the Nouvelle Alliance. Suzy is a Principal at Competition Economics LLC, with over 20 years of consulting experience in litigation matters primarily involving intellectual property, breach of contract, false advertising, and other commercial disputes. She has also taught courses in economics at several universities. Suzy earned an M.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland at College Park and a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Swarthmore College. 

Amandine Carton, Director

After leaving the south of France (Sète) in 2001, Amandine lived in England for 10 years as well as in Mauritius Island, Australia and South America and settled in Vancouver in 2016.
She is an experienced project manager with a specialization in process improvement that she has applied in many areas such as finance, retail and construction.
Amandine is interested in cultural development and supporting environmental activities. She wants to put her cultural and project management knowledge and skills to the service of the Alliance Française of Vancouver

Sima Godfrey, Director

Sima is Associate Professor of French at UBC where she has been teaching since 1989.  She is a specialist in 19th-century French literature and cultural history. From 1998 – 2006 she established and directed the Institute for European Studies at UBC, where she worked closely with the European consulates in Vancouver and especially with their cultural services. She was on the board of the Vancouver International Song Institute for 4 years where she became co-director from 2013-2015. At UBC she is also an associate of the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies which works closely with the French Consulate to bring in French scholars.

Pierre Beugnot, Director

Pierre moved to Vancouver in 2012 from Lorraine, France. He has a background in business and computer science and he is currently VP of Product/Operations at Axiom Zen, an innovation studio focused on emerging technologies.  
In his free time, Pierre works as Chair of the Technical Committee with PeaceGeeks, a non-profit organization that builds digital tools to empower communities in the pursuit of peace. He is also the High-Performance Fleet Captain at the UBC Sailing Club. He plans to support the Alliance in today's technological challenges.

Emmanuelle Roux, Director

Emmanuelle joined the board of the Alliance Française in June 2015.  A dynamic and versatile Marketing Professional with over 15 years of experience in developing and managing different levels of marketing programs for the architectural and design industry, she is currently the Marketing and Communications Manager for ACCIONA Infrastructure Canada Inc., a heavy civil engineering company that delivers solutions that contribute to the economic and social progress of the communities in which it operates.  A Canadian and French Citizen, fluent in three languages, she has been living in BC for over 20 years.  While her son was at La Rose-des-Vents school, she was actively involved with various committees and fundraising activities.

Marta Maftei, Director

Originally from Romania and educated in France, Marta moved to Vancouver in 1982 and has been an AF member since 1990.  She was a volunteer librarian for AF in 1998, a French as a second language instructor (Public Service Commission, SFU, UBC)  from 1984 a 1996 and the Director of Campus France (university cooperation centre, in charge of French language and French higher education promotion in BC and Alberta) - 2000-2011. She has been Marker for the BC French immersion examinations – since 2013
